Symptoms

Unable to send and receive emails on a server running Postfix. The following errors appear in /usr/local/psa/var/log/maillog on Postfix Service node:

    May 25 12:34:27 mail1 postfix/smtpd[11989]: fatal: non-null host address bits in "203.0.113.2/24", perhaps you should use "203.0.113.0/24" instead
    May 25 12:34:28 mail1 postfix/master[1728]: warning: process /usr/libexec/postfix/smtpd pid 11989 exit status 1
    May 25 12:34:28 mail1 postfix/master[1728]: warning: /usr/libexec/postfix/smtpd: bad command startup -- throttling

Cause

Incorrect configuration of Postfix main.cf file.

Resolution

  1. Login to Postfix Service Node and check postfix configuration file:

    # cat /etc/postfix/main.cf | grep -w mynetworks | grep -v "#"
    mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, [::1]/128, 203.0.113.2/24

  2. Change following 203.0.113.2./24 value to 203.0.113.2/32 or 203.0.113.0/24 if you need to allow send emails from whole subnet segment.

  3. Restart postfix:

    # service postfix restart
    Shutting down postfix: [ OK ]
    Starting postfix:                                          [  OK  ]
