Symptoms

Using MS Internet Explorer to access Linux name based ftp (Keywords : Linux, FTP, IE)

Resolution

1. we currently use '%' in our user names (user%domain) for name based VDSs

2.'%' is used as a separator between the password and the host in the FTP connection string (ftp://:@:/>)

3. IE gets confused due to the % in the connection string.

Workaround:

It is possible to connect via IE when supplying the following connection string:

ftp://:@:/> and replacing the '%' sign in the user name with their encoding (%25)

so if:

user = user%domain.com

host = domain.com

password = 123456

The string will look like this:

ftp://user%25domain.com:123456@domain.com/

All other FTP clients we tried have no problem with the user name format.
