Symptoms

I am trying to set up a new VDS with tomcat, theVDS DNS is not yet pointed to the ServerDirector, as I want to bring up the site first, make sure it is working, and only then point the DNS records to the ServerDirector. However TomCat does not seem to work as long as the DNS records are not pointed at the ServerDirector.

Even adding the VDSs domain in my local hosts file does not solve the problem.

Resolution

When trying to reach the tomcat directory (http://example.com/hw/), it automatically redirects to http://www.example.com/hw/, this is why, even when putting the domain in the local hosts file, you are not able to use TomCat. .

In  order to work with TomCat, while the VDS is not resolvable, you will need to add 2 records to your local hosts file, one for the domain, and one for www.domain.com which point to the VDS IP.
