How do I install SSL certificates in VDS'sin an environment with ServerDirector 3.6 and UP1?
To create a certificate request and install a 3rd party certificate from a provider such as Verisign, Thawte etc.
Install SSL VA, from VDS Control-Panel, choose temporary certificate, enter details requested (country, state etc.)
In the VDS directory under d:\accounts\vdsname\cert 3 files will be created:
We will use the created certificate request file (vds.com.req) to get the permanent certificate from the provider.
Click the SSL VA from Control-panel; you will now see the certificate request.
Copy the request and send it to the 3rd party provider, once you get the response from the provider with the requested certificate, click the SSL VA again, you will see the certificate request, click next, paste the response you got from the provider, click to check the "pfx file is needed" and type a password for the PFX file , this is important for backup purposes.
The new certificate is installed.
To install an existing certificate:
1. Create a PFX from your certificate , the best way to do that is:
Open MMC: open certificates management (by computer name)
Go to (certificates peronal certificates) import the certificate provided by the issuer, right click the certificate once it is installed in personal certificates and choose all tasks request certificate with the same key, you will get an error message.
Now click export certificate chooses "yes, export the private key" complete the wizard to create the PFX file.
2. There is a bug in SD3.6 UP1 that prevents us from installing the PFX file,
So you need to install an existing certificate Via IIS:
open IIS security properties of this VDS , click security , go to certificate and choose "install an existing certificate" , choose desired cert, complete the wizard.
3. Make sure that in "web site" tab of the IIS web site in SSL port it is configuered to listen on port 443.
