Resolution

Problem

I cannot add a user to a MySQL 5.0 database in Helm. I can add the database without issue, but when I try to add the user, I get this error in the error logs:

2006-05-10 04:30:25 Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers 0-2147217871: [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver][mysqld-5.0.15-nt]Access denied for user 'root'@'%' to database 'database-name'{0}
2006-05-10 04:30:25 Database.IDataBase_Execute 0-2147217871: [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver][mysqld-5.0.15-nt]Access denied for user 'root'@'%' to database 'database-name'{0}
2006-05-10 04:30:25 CDatabaseUser.AddDatabaseUserEx 0-2147217871: [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver][mysqld-5.0.15-nt]Access denied for user 'root'@'%' to database 'database-name'{0}

Solution

This suggests that your root user does not have full privileges to add users. Open up a MySQL editor (e.g. in MySQL Administrator or another tool like MySQL-Front) and execute the following command:

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'root'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'New-password' WITH GRANT OPTION;

This should solve the issue and allow you to add a user to a MySQL 5 database through Helm.

If this doesn't fix the problem, please contact your support provider.
