Resolution

Problem

When adding a MySQL database in Helm, it fails and I get the following error in the logs:

2005-03-15 13:29:43 [MySQL][ODBC 3.51 Driver]Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client

Solution

1.) Download MySQL Administrator:

2.) Login and click Startup Variables from the side navigation bar.

3.) Select the "Security" tab

4.) Make sure that "Use old passwords" is selected

5.) Click Apply Changes

6.) Restart the MySQL service in:

Start > Administrative Tools > Services

7.) You will also need to reset the MySQL root password - this can be done through MySQL administrator too.
Once you have followed the above steps, you should be able to add databases into Helm.
