Resolution

Problem

When performing certain tasks within Helm or the Helm Restore Tool, you may receive errors in the log referring to "Out of Memory". The tasks this occurs in appear to be random, but more often than not occur during domain creation e.g:

2005-06-27 15:17:31 Website.IWeb_AddWebsite Unknown error while creating site: Out of memory
2005-06-27 15:17:31 CWebsite.AddWebsiteEx Unknown error while creating site: Out of memory
2005-06-27 15:17:31 CDomain.AddDomainEx Unknown error while creating site: Out of memory

2005-06-27 17:12:02 FTP.IFTP_Execute Out of memory
2005-06-27 17:12:02 CFTP.AddFTPAccountEx Out of memory
2005-06-27 17:12:02 CDomain.AddDomainEx Out of memory

Solution

There is a replicable bug in Windows 2003 with Service Pack 1 installed within Component Services that causes "Out of Memory" errors when accessing IIS. It is an intermediary error that we have referred to Microsoft directly, as there is nothing within Helm that has directly attributed to the issue.

We are now awaiting responses from Microsoft about this issue.

This error will affect any version of Helm on Windows 2003 Service Pack 1. No workaround or patch has yet been issued by Microsoft.

However, we have come up with a workaround ourselves which should eliminate this issue in most (if not all) areas that it is experienced currently.

This workaround is available in Helm version 3.2.6 onwards.

This article will be updated with the appropriate details once Microsoft have contacted us about a permanent fix for this issue.
