Resolution

Problem/Summary

What are the minimum permissions required for Internet Information Services on Windows 2003 that will work with HELM?

Solution

You should only have Administrators group and SYSTEM accounts on the drive root. Helm will handle the permissions settings for the domains folders.

When using third party apps such as PHP you will need to add the HELMWEBUSERS group to the sessions and executable folder. For Perl the HELMWEBUSERS group needs access to the root of the perl directory with read and execute permissions.

More details about setting up security on a windows server can be found in this Microsoft KB Article. Where the article references the IUSR account you can replace this with the HELMWEBUSERS account for a Helm controlled web server.

You may need to add the "NETWORK SERVICE" user to "c:\\program files", "c:\\domains" and "c:\\tmp" to make it work with PHP FastCGI.
