Customer is using external SMTP server. Notifications are not sent due to error message:
"Unexpected error code"
To know where this error message is received from (BA or SMTP server) it is required to use the comand below on attempt to resend failed e-mail from PCP to determine which exact parameters are passed to SMTP:
tcpdump -vv -x -X -s 1500 -i eth1 'port 25'
In "tcpdump" output It is required to find FQDN hostname:
EHLO <FQDN hostname>
Usually BA sends FQDN hostname of application node to SMTP server. This is a demand of RFC 5321:
"The domain name given in the EHLO command MUST be either a primary host name (a domain name that resolves to an address RR), or, if the host has no name, an address literal."
After FQDN hostname is checked try to send e-mail via "telnet" command:
telnet <SMTP server hostname> 25 EHLO <FQDN hostname> MAIL FROM: <e-mal address of sender> RCPT TO: <e-mail address of receipient> DATA Subject: some test subject some text
In this case on one of the steps error message will be received from SMTP server with error code. For example: 553 - domain authentication fail
If error occured during sending e-mail via telnet the issue is on SMTP server side.
SMTP server configuration is out of Odin Technical Support Scope. Please contact SMTP server administrator to resolve the issue.
