Symptoms

It is impossible neither to upgrade OBAS nor to set a new database root password.

./install.sh execution fails with database check failure. In /tmp/product_installer.log the following could be found:

DEBUG: Failed to connect to MySQL server using 'root' account:
ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)
Please make sure that MySQL server is running and connection parameters are
specified in the local .my.cnf file as it is described in upgrade notes.

Cause

Root user cannot access MySQL database with its current password.

Resolution

Changing MySQL database root password is a purely administrative task that lies out of Odin Scope of Support. We can only suggest a common workaround: insert into /etc/my.cfg in the [mysqld] section the skip-grant-tables directive and restart the MySQL service:

# service mysqld restart

After that try to upgrade OBAS again.
