Symptoms

Which methods one should use to implement WHOIS privacy while developing a domain registration plug-in?

Resolution

In the Supporting 'WHOIS Privacy' Feature SDK section the following methods are defined: can_idprotect, get_idprotect and set_idprotect.

Those method names are wrong, correct ones are can_whois_privacy, get_whois_privacy and set_whois_privacy.

The internal issue with ID PBAS-29923 was submitted in order to correct this in SDK with one of the upcoming OBAS releases.

Other than the names, all information on those methods in the SDK guide is correct.

Additional information

If a plug-in supports the can_whois_privacy method, the section "WHOIS privacy settings" is shown in the plug-in settings for a certain TLD.

If Provider checks the "Allow WHOIS Privacy" settings in the plug-in settings and in a hosting plan, the 'WHOIS Privacy' option is displayed in the Shop.

During domain registration process the set_whois_privacy method is called if 'WHOIS Privacy' is ordered.

get_whois_privacy is an optional method to check the WHOIS privacy setting for a domain name.
