Symptoms

There is a customer organization in the Microsoft cloud. In the Microsoft cloud, one of the Microsoft subscriptions of the customer organization contains two different licenses (the Offer IDs of the licenses are different but the Provisioning IDs are the same). In Service Automation, each license is represented by the separate resource of the corresponding Service Automation subscription. When such a license is assigned to a user in the Microsoft Online Services portal and synchronization is performed, the ambiguity appears in defining which resource must be used in Service Automation. Because of this ambiguity the synchronization fails.

Cause

Two different licenses (the Offer IDs of the licenses are different but the Provisioning IDs are the same) belong to the same Microsoft subscription in the Microsoft cloud.

Resolution

To resolve this ambiguity, license priorities are used. When the ambiguity appears, the Microsoft Office 365 application uses the resource where the license has the least value of the priority and the resource limit is not reached.

Microsoft Office 365 APS 1.2 (4.16 and higher)

The priority of a license is set in the Settings.config file in the key field, where digits specified in the value of the field are converted into the value of the priority.

Examples:

  • <add key="O365Offer10" value="2AA650CE-9CA6-4F63-9299-F2C992FFB0F1, SOME_PROVISIONING_ID, License A"/> - the priority of the license is 10;
  • <add key="O365Offer11" value="8283970D-3CBA-429C-9C75-EB7D33EC0F14, SOME_PROVISIONING_ID, License B"/> - the priority of the license is 11;

Microsoft Office 365 APS 2 (6.1 and higher)

The priority of a license is set in the corresponding license/add-on type in the Provisioning ID parameter, where digits specified in the value of the parameter are converted into the value of the priority. Note, you must add : before digits.

Examples:

  • SOME_PROVISIONING_ID:10 - the priority of the license is 10;
  • SOME_PROVISIONING_ID:11 - the priority of the license is 11;
