Symptoms

Task for provisioning Windows services via MPS fail with errors like this:

Provisioning request failed. The RPC server is unavailable.

I have checked MPS in accordance with the article https://kb.odin.com/114182, but it did not help. What is the reason of the failure?

Cause

It can be caused by incorrect firewall configuration: some needed ports are not allowed. For example, ports 135, 445 should be open between MPS <> IIS Web server in both directions.

Resolution

Login to MPS server via RDP and check what port is used by DllHost.exe (you may check it with netstat -b command). Check if this port is allowed between MPS server and correspondent Windows server used for hosting services.
