Symptoms

In Parallels Operations Automation 6.0, the Subscription OU Name Template setting from the screen located at System > Settings > Auto-generated Names in Provider Control Panel does not have influence on names of Organizational Units corresponding to subscriptions with the enabled flag Account-Wide Services.

Cause

The setting Subscription OU Name Template is used only for subscriptions with the disabled flag Account-Wide Services. Names of Organizational Units corresponding to subscriptions with the enabled flag Account-Wide Services are managed with another setting that does not have UI now.

Resolution

The name of an Organizational Unit, where AD entities of a customer subscription are placed, is critical in some cases because this name may be visible to end-users. For example, this name is used to generate the name of an Offline Address Book of a customer organization, which is visible in Outlook. Unfriendly names may confuse end-users.

By default, names of Organizational Units corresponding to subscriptions with the enabled flag Account-Wide Services rely on company names of customer accounts. This is suitable in most cases but if the default behaviour is not suitable for you, it can be changed in the system database.

1. If you want the OU names to rely on the subscription identifier of the first subscription with the enabled flag Account-Wide Services of a customer account, execute the following SQL request:

UPDATE actdir_sys_cfg SET value = 'S‎${subscription_id}${unique}' WHERE name = 'sys.customer.account_wide_ou_name_template';
The resulting names will look like S000000010, where 10 is a subscription identifier.

2. If you want the OU names to rely on account identifiers, execute the following SQL request:

UPDATE actdir_sys_cfg SET value = '‎A${account_id}${unique}' WHERE name = 'sys.customer.account_wide_ou_name_template';
The resulting names will look like A000000005, where 5 is an account identifier.

3. If you want to return the default behavior, execute the following SQL request:

UPDATE actdir_sys_cfg SET value = '‎${company_name}${unique}' WHERE name = 'sys.customer.account_wide_ou_name_template';
The resulting names will rely on company names of customer accounts.

You are free to use placeholders and any symbols in different combinations, but note that the length of a resulting OU name cannot exceed 64 symbols. Parallels Automation tries to satisfy this limitation by truncating a company name prior to substitute the corresponding placeholder. However all other placeholders and symbols are not truncated. If the resulting OU name exceeds this limitation, you will get an error during subscription provisioning.
