Symptoms

Customer in CCP can specify password that does not meet some APS vendors' standards, after pressing Next button customer gets error:

Invalid input
Password does not meet the Office 365 password policy requirements.
Password should be 8 characters minimum and 16 characters maximum in length.
Password should contain at least 3 classes of characters: lower-case letters, capital letters, digits, special characters ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * - _ + = [ ] { } | " ; \ ' < > ? , . / : ( ).
Password cannot contain the username alias (part before @ symbol).

Cause

The standard towards password policy is:

  • Use 8 to 16 characters.
  • Lowercase letters
  • Uppercase letters
  • Numbers (0-9)
  • Symbols, including: ! @ # $ % ^ & * - _ + = [ ] { } | \ : ' , . ? / ` ~ " < > ( ) ;

However, some APS vendors have different policy

  • Office 365 does not allow space <>.
  • Some APS like Opslag Online does not allow space <> and have problems with & and +

Resolution

There is a feature request POA-77245 "Password Policy sync between APS and POA". Please contact your account manager regarding it.

The request include following points:

  • Make the default Parallels password generator not create passwords that contain: spaces, & and + characters
  • Also make it so that the POA password policy not accept manually created passwords with these characters
