Symptoms

After upgrading to POA 5.5, users with qmail service cannot log into their mailboxes using any type of connection - IMAP, POP3, webmail, etc.

An attempt to authenticate using POP3 fails with the following error message:

-ERR Login failed

If debug logging is enabled for the courier-auth service on qmail servers as per Knowledgebase article #116961, then the following entry appears in the /var/log/maillog file on qmail servers:

authdaemond: FAIL, all modules rejected

Cause

The libauthcustom.so and wso_login files were mistakenly placed into the /usr/local/pem/var/cores/%ROOTPATH%/usr/lib/ folder during the upgrade to POA 5.5.

Note: %ROOTPATH% is not a placeholder.

Resolution

  1. Move the files into the proper folder on all POA-managed qmail servers:

    mv -f /usr/local/pem/var/cores/%ROOTPATH%/usr/lib/libauthcustom.so /usr/lib/ mv -f /usr/local/pem/var/cores/%ROOTPATH%/usr/sbin/wso_login /usr/sbin/

  2. Restart the courier-auth service:

    /etc/init.d/courier-auth restart
