Provider initiated Exchange mailbox movement to another Mailbox Store registered in POA. The background task 'Move mailbox' fails with the following error message:
Item referred by '<LDAP path>' does not have a valid 'homeMDB'
More detailed diagnostics is provided below:
Provisioning request failed. Error in 'SW Managed Exchange.MoveMailbox'.
Exception calling "Execute" with "3" argument(s): "Item referred by 'LDAP://CN=john.doe,OU=Provider,OU=Hosting,DC=hosting,DC=local' does not have a valid 'homeMDB'"

Most liekly the reason is problems with Exchange services on the target Exchange host (where customer's mailbox is going to be moved to):

  • The default mailbox store on the target server is not mounted
  • The System Attendant homeMDB value is missing or invalid


1. Make sure that the default mailbox store is mounted on the target Exchange server, use the EMS (Exchange Management Shell) or EMC (Exchange Management Console) to do that. If this does not resolve the problem, go to step 2.

2. Follow the advices in the Microsoft articles to resolve the problem:
