Symptoms

The hspcd service stops right after the start. It could run for 2 minutes and then it is interrupted unexpectedly.

In /var/log/hspc/hspc.log file you can find errors similiar to the following ones:

[Mon Dec 24 20:45:06 2012] [error] child process 1887 still did not exit, sending a SIGKILL
[Mon Dec 24 20:45:06 2012] [error] child process 3118 still did not exit, sending a SIGKILL

or

[Mon Dec 24 20:45:07 2012] [error] could not make child process 1697 exit, attempting to continue anyway
[Mon Dec 24 20:45:07 2012] [error] could not make child process 1699 exit, attempting to continue anyway

Cause

The hspcd service stops due to the lack of disk resources.  By design when diskspace or inodes reach 80% limit, there is a red warning "The number of used inodes or free disk space at one of the partitions has exceeded 80%. See the details" on the top in Provider CC. Upon reaching 95% the hspcd service stops to prevent data loss.

Resolution

Check file system disk space usage:

# df -h

And list inode information:

# df -i

If diskspace or inodes reached 95%, clean up or increase disk space, start the hscpd service and check if all the necessary services are up using "Check Now" button in Service Monitor:

Top > Configuration Director > Up2date Manager > Service Monitor
