Cause

There are two possible causes of this error:

  • No BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool software is installed on the MPF or WPE host.
  • The wrong version of the BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool is installed on the MPF or WPE host.
  • For BlackBerry 5 services: there is an error in communication between WPE/MPS and BES service with following in WPE log:

    BESProvider.BESProviderException: The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel.
    at BESProvider.Api.Bas.GetAuthenticator(BAAServiceUtil utilWebService, AuthenticationType authType)

Resolution

Check that the BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool is installed on the WPE/MPF host. The supported version is BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool v5.0 Service Pack 3.

It can be downloaded here

Note: Please select the BlackBerry Enterprise Server Resource Kit v5.0 Service Pack 3 option to see the Administration Tool v5.0 Service Pack 3 download link.

If the BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool is installed but you still encounter the error, try to force the task using your installed BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool:

On WPE installations:

  1. Log in to the WPE node.
  2. Open <WPE Root>\Providers\BESProvider\BESProvider.dll.config in Notepad.
  3. Uncomment the line (remove <!-- and --> xml comments)

    <add key="bes5AdminToolFullPath" value="C:\BesTools\BESUserAdminClient.exe">

  4. Change the value attribute to the correct full path of BESUserAdminClient.exe (typically: C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server Resource Kit\BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool Client\BESUserAdminClient.exe).
  5. Restart the WPE application pool.
  6. Repeat steps one to five on each WPE node if you have a WPE cluster.

On HMC/MPS installations:

  1. Log in to the MPS node.
  2. Open <MPF Providers Root>\BESProvider.dll.config in Notepad.
  3. Uncomment the line (remove <!-- and --> xml comments)

    <add key="bes5AdminToolFullPath" value="C:\BesTools\BESUserAdminClient.exe">

  4. Change the value attribute to the correct full path of BESUserAdminClient.exe (typically: C:\Program Files (x86)\Research In Motion\BlackBerry Enterprise Server Resource Kit\BlackBerry Enterprise Server User Administration Tool Client\BESUserAdminClient.exe).
  5. Restart the ProvEngine COM+ application.
  6. Repeat steps one to five on each MPS node if you have a MPS cluster.

For BES5:

Check the Event Viewer log on the WPE/MPS node, it is possible that the WPE service cannot commnunicate properly to BES https service. Remove Microsoft KB3061518 from WPE node if it is installed.
