Parallels Virtual Automation builds, releases, and supported virtualization products

Article ID: 112297, created on Sep 16, 2011, last review on Jun 29, 2015

APPLIES TO:
  • Virtuozzo
  • Virtuozzo containers
  • Virtuozzo hypervisor
  • Virtual Automation

Information

The Parallels Virtual Automation product is represented by two separate modules:

PVA Agent - Software that installs directly on the server with virtualization (Parallels Cloud Server, Parallels Virtuozzo Containers, Parallels Server 4.0 and 5.0 Bare Metal) and provides: remote management via XML API, SOAP API, backup/restore and offline management functionality for virtual environments.

PVA Management Node - Software that is installed on a separate host without any internal virtualization (it can be a container or a virtual machine on any virtual server, but not necessarily) and provides a centralized point of virtualization server management via a web interface called PVA Control Center, which is available over the HTTPS on the port 4648 of the PVA Management Node.

PVA Management Node (PVA MN) manages virtualization servers with PVA Agent installed via XML API. In order to be able to manage a server with a PVA Agent via PVA MN, it is necessary to register the server in the PVA Control Center first, whereas the PVA Agent by default is installed on the virtualization server, along with virtualization software, such as Parallels Server or Parallels Virtuozzo Containers.

The following information helps you identify which build and release of Parallels Virtual Automation is installed on the server and to determine whether it needs to be updated or not.

PVA Agent

Information about releases is divided by the operation system: for Linux-based - Parallels [Cloud] Server and Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Linux, for Windows - Parallels Virtuozzo Containers for Windows and for Mac OS X - Parallels Server for Mac.
